Barbara was the forth child born out of five raised on the family homestead outside of Farmington, Missouri. Her childhood was normal for its time, based on a family home life in the country. She grew up and attended school till she graduated from High School.
Before Barbara was twenty-one when she married her first husband by the name of Gerald Robert Black. This marriage only lasted approximately one year, for Gerald liked chasing and sometimes even cheating with other woman.
Barbara married her second husband Bobby Lee Jackson Hogan on April 16, 1960. Immediately thereafter they moved from Missouri to a house they purchased in Miami, Florida. It was ten months later on January 18, 1961 when they were blessed with a daughter by the name of Laurel Elaine Hogan. The marriage continued for seven years before it ended shortly after the birth of their son Shawn Patrick Hogan.
Once the divorce was finalized Barbara proceeded to raise their two children on her own, for Bobby returned to Missouri and refused to have any future contact with her or the children, including providing them with some form of financial support. This initially resulted in a short term financial hardship for Barbara and the children.
Nevertheless, Barbara went to work as a waitress for several years until she became a finger nail sculptress. By the time her daughter was twenty-five years old they had both accumulated enough clients in sculpturing nails to open their own business. They named it Alaine's Sculptured Nails. The two of them operated the business for several years until indifferences between them resulted in the closing of the business.
Barbara continued living and working in Miami for several more years. It was then she contracted cancer which resulted in her moving back to Farmington, Missouri. There she lived with her mother until her death on September 09, 1997. She was cremated and her ashes were buried in the family cemetery plot located outside of Farmington, Missouri. The official cause of death was respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from tobacco abuse.

Personen : Eck Andrea
Nothing is known about the family prior to the birth of Andrea Eck in 1678. This comes at no surprise, for between 1618 and 1648 growth was brutally interrupted by the thirty-year-war. Alsace was invaded several times by the Swedish troops of King Gustaf-Adolf, and plague and famine took a heavy toll. The treaty of Muenster in 1648 gradually brought about the integration of the region into the Kingdom of France, save for Strasbourg, which was an independent republic, and Mulhouse, which had been attached to Switzerland.
However, when Andrea Eck was three years old, Alsace came under the reign of Louis XIV and was united in whole with the Kingdom of France. This brought forth the political convulsions resulting from the transformation from Empire into Republic.
In any event, Alsace was not a bad place to live despite the turmoil of its history. Even though it's the smallest French region, it's located between the Rhine and the Vosges mountains, close to the German and Swiss borders. This in itself offered Andrea a wonderful diversity of living conditions byway of the land: plains, flood meadows, forest, vineyards, valleys, and mountains.
Although it is not known when Andrea married, it is documented in 1719 that Andrea Eck and his wife Catharine Spechst had a son by the name of Joannes Jacob Eck. In turn, this was either preceded or later followed by a daughter named, Anna Marie Eck.
Andrea and his family more then likely lived in a traditional home. Most were small, almost like doll houses, and their structures were made of a criss-crossed framework of oak or chestnut beams, filled in with wattles made of hazelnut branches and daub made of mud, clay and chopped straw. The main rooms were located on the main floor, a living and combined dining room with an adjacent alcove that was used as the master bedroom. This is where the family spent most of their time. The finest pieces of furniture were placed here: sideboards, bin, chairs, and the alcove contained a bed and a crib for the latest addition to the family. The upstairs bedrooms themselves were very plain, with spare furnishings.
Whereas noblemen and well-to-do burgesses used silver, pewter, or fine porcelain at their tables, Andrea probably used pots made of sculptured wood, tin, glazed earthenware, sandstone, and humbler types of porcelain.
In spite of not having the fanciest of cooking utensils, Andrea and his family must of eaten very well. Some of the basic meals would of consisted of Rhine fish stew, gingerbread, onion pie, goose, sauerkraut, cheese, wine, and Alsace style snails.
By the time Andrea Eck died on September 17, 1751, his son Joannes Jacob Eck had already married and had fathered several children. One was named Johann Eck for whom later had a son named, Joseph Eck, born on October 1, 1769.
It was when Joseph Eck was twenty years old, the French Revolution completed the process of the integration of Alsace into France. Reconstruction and the Counter-Reformation by the Catholic Church gave Alsace renewed impetus. Baroque and classic art thrived, and French and German influences met in religious and secular edifices. This was the golden age, which has given Alsace and our family an added unique heritage.
During the Napoleonic times (1799 to 1814), Alsace was a major supplier of subsistence and men for the French army. Although it is not known if Joseph Eck was involved in Napoleon Bonaparte's army, it is known Joseph was home enough with his wife to have several children. One of these children was Martin Eck, born on March 29, 1910.
It was roughly at the time Martin Eck was five years old, Nepoleon the first had lost his throne, and the region of Alsace underwent a serious economic crisis. This continued through a good part of Martin's life until 1850 when the burgesses modernized and adapted the economy.
Nonetheless, it was during the latter part of this economic crisis that Martin became an enlisted soldier within the army of Napoleon III. Upon serving seven years, his horse was supposedly used to pull down a tent in which a meeting was taking place. Thus, Martin had to make himself scarce. So after he put his family on a ship bound for the U.S., he stowed away on it himself.
Note: Alsace and Northern Lorraine became part of the German Empire by 1871. This is more then likely the reason behind some of the early U.S. Census Records having the Eck family listed as coming from Germany, and not France.

Martin (Sr.) Eck was born in Rosheim, Alsace - Lorraine, Prussia. This was part of the former German Empire, and is now Rosheim, Alsace - Lorraine, France.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Pana Township, Christian County, Illinois.
The date of death with his age listed on the grave marker would make Martin (Sr.) Eck born on March 30, 1810. However, it's strongly believed he was born on March 29, 1810. Apparently, they thought the month of April was 30 days long, but it contains 31 days.
Note: Martin (Sr.) Eck is buried next to the grave sites containing the Lehn family.
"The following was originally written by Harold Victor Eck"
Martin Eck and his family emigrated to America from Rosheim, France in 1853. There was a revolution in France and Martin was somehow involved. According to my grandfather, Martin fought for seven years in Napoleon's Army. His horse supposedly was used to pull down a tent in which a meeting was taking place and he had to make himself scarce. He put his family on a ship and stowed away on it himself.
Their port of embarkation or where they arrived in America is not known. However, they settled near Pana in southern Illinois. Martin had sons named John, Ignacious, Alois, and Martin. Ignacious and Alois married sisters named Pauline & Elizabeth Vits. The two families moved to western Kansas together in 1887. About two years later they moved to near Piedmont (west of Edmond), Oklahoma.
Research notes by Eric Pearson:
Harold Victor Eck says, "Martin (Sr.) Eck and his family emigrated to America from Rosheim, France in 1853." However, The 1900 Census for the township of Oconee, Shelby County, Illinois, has John Eck [the son of Martin (Sr.) Eck] as emigrating from Germany in 1860. (Note: At that time, Rosheim, France was part of Prussia - The former German Empire.)
According to the dates, Martin Eck would of fought for seven years during the reign of Napoleon III.

As of September 12, 1918, Barbara (Eck) Specht is living Trenton, Clinton County, Illinois.
The 1920 US Census has Barbara (Eck) Specht living with her son Leo (Jr.) Specht and his wife Nellie, in St. Louis (Independance City), Missouri. The census was taken between the 14 and 15 of January 1920. She died within two weeks after it was taken.
The death certificate for Barbara (Eck) Specht has her home address listed as 4259 Juniats, St. Louis City, Missouri.
Cause of death: Senility
The Missouri State death certificate says, born November 22, 1846, died January 28, 1920. However, the death date of January 27, 1920 is written on the death record at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Aviston, Clinton County, Illinois. As such, Barbara (Eck) Specht probably died later in the day on January 27, 1920, and the Missouri State death certificate was probably issued the next following day by the undertaker on January 28, 1920.
Burial: January 30, 1920, [Section: A, Row: 9, Grave: 25] St. Francis Cemetery, Sugar Creek Township, Clinton County, Illinois. Tombstone says, "In Memory of. Rest Mother, rest in quiet sleep. While friends in sorrow o'er thee weep."
