[Bonne Terre Star, Friday, April 6, 1923]
FARMINGTON PHYSICIAN AGE 33, COMMITS SUICIDE:
Dr. W. H. Schroeder, 33 years old, a medical doctor who has been in the practice of his profession in Farmington [St. Francois County, Mo.] for the past year, committed suicide, Tuesday afternoon [April 3, 1923] at 4:30 o'clock, by shooting himself in the head with a 32 caliber revolver. The shot entered the head about an inch above the right ear and lodged in the brain. Schroeder lived for a few minutes following the shooting, but did not speak.
He had been ill for a period of three weeks and had seemed morbid at times. Dr. G. B. Graves of Farmington, who had been in attendance upon Schroeder during his illness, said that he had suffered two fainting spells within less than 24 hours of the suicide. The first of these was Monday evening at 7 o'clock and the second, Tuesday morning at 2 o'clock. Dr. Graves was called to the house on each occasion.
At the time of the shooting, Schroeder was alone in the house. Mrs. Schroeder was busy in the yard with some flowers. Her brother, a man by the name of Doddendorf, who is a student in the Government vocational school at Farmington and boarding at the Schroeder home was in the garden at the time. Mrs. Schroeder heard the shot and rushed into the house, finding the doctor lying on the floor. The shooting occurred in the bedroom of the house occupied by Dr. and Mrs. Schroeder.
Coroner C. J. Hill of Bismarck held an inquest over the remains Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The coroner's jury returned a verdict of death from a self-inflicted bullet wound.
Dr. and Mrs. Schroeder came to this county from St. Louis four years ago. They settled in Flat River where they made their home for a period of three years. They located in Farmington a year ago last month.
There is an only son in the family, a boy 7 years of age.

[The Bonne Terre Star, Friday, March 14, 1913]
Eliza Ann, daughter of Briggs Murrell and Martha Anderson Murrell was born near Blackwell, Mo., April 27, 1832. She was married to Christian Patt Nov. 8, 1850. Nine children were born unto them, eight of whom lived to rear families. Mrs. Martha Janis died several years ago, leaving the following brothers and sisers who survive their mother:
Mrs. Murphy of St. Louis; Mrs. Emily Ward, of Bonne Terre; Mrs. Rosa Doe and William Patt of Hazel Run; Henry Patt of Flat River; Mrs. Christia Massengale of Haskell, Okla.; and Christian Patt of Desloge. She also leaves 46 grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
"Grandma" Patt as she was familiarly called was a woman who thought her first duty was to her children, hence her life was given to making the home a pleasant place, and of course in this she did not fail. For several years she has been living with her son-in-law, Charles Ward of this city. Several weeks ago she was taken with La Grippe, from which she seemed to be recovering when pneumonia supervened, terminating fatally Monday evening, March 10, at about 8 o'clock. She was a member of the M. E. Church South, and greatly enjoyed her Christian experiences. Hers was a bright sunny life and she will be greatly missed by her friends.
Nelson B. Henry.
Mrs. Patt was of that good old fashioned type of true womanhood and motherhood, a home builder, one who rejoiced in doing for others and in this she was beloved by all who were so fortunate as to come in contact with her. Her life was well and profitably spent, she lived to see its fruition in dutiful sons and daughers all of whom have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.
