Obituary - John M. Chatman:
John Monroe Chatman passed away at his home, 8 miles south of Farmington, at 6:30 o'clock Tuesday evening, March 10, 1931, after a lingering illness, aged 60 years, five months and 10 days. Funeral services were held at Pendleton church at Doe Run at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon by Rev. Wm. Adams. Interment was in Pendleton cemetery.
The deceased was born un Reynolds County, Mo., on Sep. 20, 1870, son of the late William and Hulda Bullock Chatman. In March, 1893, he was united in marriage to Mary Jackson, of Annapolis, Mo. To this union one son, Edward, was born. The wife and mother passed away in 1894. On March 20, 1896, he was united in marriage to Martha Scaggs, of Doe Run, Mo. To this union eleven children were born, three of whom, Ernest, Ida, and Mattie, proceeded the father in death. The surviving children are Edward, of Flat River; Elmer, of St. Louis; Mary (Mrs. J. A.) Wilkerson, of Hogan; Oscar of Farmington; Nolis, of St. Louis; Lonis, Otto, Mildred and Lola, at home. The deceased took sick last fall and shortly afterward went to St. Louis where he could receive treatment from a specialist. On Dec. 20th (1930), he underwent an operation at the Rernard Hospital in St. Louis. For a time following the operation his condition seemed to be much improved, but later it became worse again. On last Friday he sustained a paralytic stroke involving his left side from which he never rallied.
Mr. Chatman united with the Church of Christ at Cartee about 27 years ago. He had lived in this county for more than 30 years and on the farm where he passed away for more than 20 years. He was a good husband, a kind an indulgent father, a sincere Christian, good neighbor and true friend - quiet and unassuming, but very industrious. His family and the community have indeed lost a member that will be greatly missed.
The - News joins in extending deepest sympathy to all his loved ones in their great sorrow.

Albert and his sister were probably orphans.
The 1900 Census has Albert living in the home of Thomas Chapman. However, Thomas died that year and Albert went to live with Mary Chapman (Mrs. Guss Williams) with her two oldest sons Walter & George. It's believed most likely Albert and Mary's children where friends or "possably" family related.
It is strongly believed any information about Job Decker being married to a Polly Chapman with their son being Albert Decker is incorrect. Overall, it simply dosn't fit very well with a Polly Chapman as the mother to Albert Decker with her husband being in his 60's. Moreover, who is this Polly Chapman.... No body has found her, or her parents?
Moreover, Berlie Buford says Alberts Decker's mother was named Bell. She was sick and gave Albert Decker to the Thomas Chapman when he was very young. Berlie Buford is still living as of 1995. She grew up in the area where the Chapman's lived. She is the niece of Jennie Belle Fitzgerald. Berlie Buford is the aunt of Tony Fitzgerald, Mary Fitzgerald's Husband.
