ASBURY LONDON DIES AT HOME OF DAUGHTER IN FLAT RIVER, MAY 18:
Asbury London, aged 77 years 7 months and 17 days, one of the pioneer citizens of this section of Missouri, passed away at the home of his daugher, Mrs. L. L. Mouser in Flat River [St. Francois County, Mo.] on May 18 [1920]. The funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Taylor Avenue Methodist Church by Rev. George Steel, who was an old-time friend and former pastor of the deceased. Rev. Steel was assisted by Rev. F. M. Baker, pastor of the Baptist Church here.
Music was furnished by a double quarter: Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Ramsey, Misses Edyth Mitchell, Edith Ledbetter and Sadie Sitzes, and Messrs Homer Inman, Thos. Wilby and J. Lee Johnson. Old familiar hymns were sung, songs that had been favorites of Mr. London.
The flower bearers were Mesdames J. Lee Johnson, F. M. Horton, A. W. Kinzer, W. W. Parker, C. R. Pratt and Mrs. J. M. Webb. The pallbearers were Messrs, F. M. Horton, L. R. Reid, C. R. Pratt, Wm. Burns, A. W. Kenzer and W. W. Parker.
The large and appreciative audience who came to pay their last tribute of respect to his memory, was an evidence of the esteem in which he was held by the citizens of his home town. Following the funeral service, his remains were conveyed to Doe Run, Mo., and quietly laid away to rest by the side of his wife.
Asbury London was the son of William London and wife, and was born in Hopkinsville, KY., Oct. 1, 1842. When a lad of 6 years his parents came to Missouri and located at Doniphan. After a few years residence in this locality, he came with his parents to Madison County, Mo. Here it was that he met the one whom providence had ordained should be his life companion, and on Nov. 25, 1869, he was united in marriage to Nancy C. Dudley. To their union 10 children were born, eight sons and two daughters. Of whom four sons have preceded their father in death, three in infancy and John, the oldest, on July 19, 1907.
On Aug. 17, 1888, he moved with his family to Doe Run, where they remained for twelve years, thence coming to Flat River in November 1900 where he has since made his home.
Deceased was converted at about the age of 16 years, and was baptized into the fellowship of Little Vine Baptist Church in Madison Co., by Uncle Billy Settles, one of the old pioneer preachers. He continued in this faith until his death, living a life that was above reproach. Such was the confidence expressed in him by his brethern, that he was given a license by them to exercise his talents in the preaching of the gospel and was regularly ordained by them to the office of Deacon. When the First Baptist Church of Flat River was organized he became a charter member, and at the time of his death was an honorary member of the Board of Deancons.
Mrs. London, having passed away Dec. 8, 1912, there are left of his immediate relatives, who survive him, four sons and two daughters, William, of Farmington; Charles, of Herculaneum; Monroe of St. Louis; Mrs. L. L. Mouser of Flat River; Cleve of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Walter Culp of Camden, Ark., twenty-two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildern and one sister-in-law, Mrs. J. London. Besides these a large number of other relatives and a host of friends mourn his departure.

Personen : Varner William
12/18/2007 - Received an email written by Ray Porter:
I did some research on Adam Varner and his son William but can not find what little I did find. The reason I did the research was it was the only lead I had on my ancestor Samuel Porter who in the 1830 census lived just a few houses from William Varner. That connection was from a Mecklenburg 1812 militia list which had both names on it. I supposed at the time my Samuel and the Varner's were somehow related and as I was trying to find the parents of my ancestor I would follow the Varner's. Turned out my ancestor was from Chester Co SC and actually joined the US Army in the War of 1812 and served at Ft Osage, so there was no connection prior to the war. However I guess the Porter's and Varner's became close in Greene Co as Samuel Porter was bondsman for the William Varner - Patsy Dudlee marriage. I will have to find the source as it is important to my research.
Here is something I transcribed which is unpublished:
