MRS. HARRY HIGHLEY.
Mrs. Harry Highley of Farmington, passed away Friday, September 22, 1933, following an illness of several months, aged 53 years and 21 days. When a small child she moved with her parents to Bonne Terre, where she was reared and educated, graduating from the high school with the class of 1899. On July 3, 1911, she was united in marriage to Harry E. Highley, who with their three children, Leota, Harry, Jr., and Martha, survive. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. L. O. Ross of Stockton, Ill., and two aunts, Mrs. Millie C. Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Susan Robinson of Festus, besides many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Highley became a member of the Baptist Church at the age of twelve years and was a sincere Christian, wife and mother. She will be sadly missed.

Additional Information: According to St. Francois County Cemeteries book, she was born Aug. 31, 1881(?), and died Sept. 22, 1933, daughter of John E. and Mary (Johnson) Harrison. She and Harry were married July 31, 1911.
Source: The above obit was obtained from the files of the Farmington Library. Name or date of newspaper was not noted on clipping. Only 1933 was handwritten on clipping.
Note that this other obit gives her year of birth as 1880 instead of 1881 as reflected in cemetery book. The year 1880 is probably correct since that would compute given her age of 53 at time of death.

Henry Slade Commits Suicide:
At eight o'clock Monday evening our city was shocked by the news that Henry Slade had committed suicide.
At about 3 o'clock in the afternoon Monday, Mr Slade went into the G. R. Romine saloon and asked Virgil Romine, who was on watch, for paper and pencil, and when it was given him he said that he would go where ir was quiet and write a note, and accordingly he went into the room , formerly occupied by Kert Fraser as a Barber shop and is used as a sort of a store room.
At about six o'clock Henry Bequette went into the room for some empty bottles and noted someone lying on the floor, but thought that it was someone asleep. C. Mayness also saw the man asleep as he supposed.
At about 8 o'clock Bob Ray and H. Pratte were sent in to wake Slade as it was thought it was time he should be going home, and the two men were horrified when they went into the room to find that instead of being asleep, Slade was dead.
The alarm was spread rapidly and in a few minutes a large crowd had collected, and the officers were sent for.
Tuesday afternoon Coroner English convened a Coroner's Jury when facts as above were brought out and also the fact that Slade died as a result fo drinking Carbolic Acid, A nearly empty vial of the drug being found in one of his pockets. Also on a chair near where Slade lay on the floor was found a note as follows:
Dear Wife:-I am sorry that you are mad at me. May God bless you is my prayer. Tommy be good to your mother. She is your first Care. My love to you all. Good Bye.
The not was not signed.
Henry Madison Slade was born near Danbridge, Tenn., June 21, 1872: On December 29, 1891 he was married to Maggie McLaughlin, to them eight children were born, of whom there are six living, the youghest being six years old.

The bereaved wife and family certainly have the sympathy of the entire community in their said (sic) hour.

FORMER LEAD BELT MAN KILLED BY EXPLOSION:
Cleve Henson, 35 years old, who had made his home on a farm near Patton, was killed Friday afternoon while engaged in dynamiting stumps from the right-of-way in the construction of a stretch of roadway in that vicinity. Henson had been assigned the task of lighting fuses. The explosion came before he succeeded in getting away from the danger zone.
He was knocked down and blinded by the first explosion and made a frantic effort to crawl to safety. When the explosions ceased, however, and companions went to his aid, they found that both his eyes had been blown out and that he had other severe wounds about his head and chest. An attempt was made to reach Bonne Terre Hospital with him, but he died on the way, having lived perhaps an hour after the accident.
The unfortunate man's brother, Wm. Henson, was employed on road work also, with his brother. When the first explosion came, the doomed man called for help. His brother would have rushed to his side, but was prevented from doing so by fellow workmen, who realized it would be certain death to make the attempt.
Mr. Henson was buried at Libertyville Sunday. He leaves a wife. At one time, several years ago, he made his home in Flat River.
