William Joseph Seuferling 1918 - 2007
Wea - Mass of Christian Burial for William Joseph Seuferling, 88, Wea, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wea. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Seuferling died Thursday, May 24, 2007, at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of Joseph and Margaret Seck Seuferling. He attended Bucyrus High School and graduated in 1936. He lived in the Wea community his entire life.
Mr. Seuferling was a dairyman and farmer for 60 years. He was a lifelong member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Wea. He was also a member of the Wea Men's Club, where he served as an usher for many years.
He married Cecilia Guetterman on June 3, 1941. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Wayne, Wea, Dale, Lawrence, and Ron, Mission; three daughters, Margaret Grosdidier, St. Joseph, Mo., Kathy Carrigan, Atchison, and Doris Derkacht, Longview, Wash.; a brother, Joseph, Cameron, Mo.; a sister, Florence Cummings, Olathe; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Seuferling was preceded in death by infant twin sons.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church before the services, with the rosary recited at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The family suggests memorials to Holy Rosary-Wea Catholic School, sent in care of Wilson & Son Funeral Home, P.O. Box 669, 120 South Broadway, Louisburg, 66053.

A-1 class torpedoboat, 110 brt (137 brt) build by Stettiner Oderwerke, Stettin, Germany; Ships number 668. (10.07.1915). 41,58 x 4,60 x 1,52 m Armament: one 5.2 cm SKL/55 (TK - 5L/40 (120), two 45 cm T.T., 4 mines & sweeping material. One propellor 1.8 meter diameter. Basis Oostende. On 22nd August 1915 Kapt. z. s. Gutermann, reported 2 torpedoboats near the Middelkerkebank. They were the French ORIFLAMME and BRANLEBAS. The A-15 tried to go for cover under the German coast defence, but was sunk after only 15 minutes. The range of fire was 1.600 meter and A-15 was hit by a dozen of direct hits and sunk aft first, where she was hit by a torpedo. Nine crew were rescued near the Oostendebank by A-12. (Chart position: 51°18' N - 02°49' E. )
The wreck today:
Discovered on Sunday, 10th May, 1998 by the research team from the `Sea Quest'. They found a magnetic deviation of 430 nT on position 51°18.58 N en 02°48.61 E. On the sonar only a small valley was noticable in the middle of which something came only half meter out. Later dives reported a wreck with only the exhaust tubes sticking out of the sand. The wreck is mainly covered with sand, but remains clearly identify a steamship.

Additional Information: The 17th Missouri Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized in St. Louis, Missouri in August 1861 by the German-American Turner Society. With its ranks filled by Turners recruited throughout the country, the regiment was known as the Western Turner Rifles. During the Civil War, the Western Turner Rifles was part of the "Light German Brigade" comprising the 3rd, 12th and 17th Missouri Regiments. The 17th Missouri was engaged from the earliest days of the Civil War marching from St. Louis to Georgia, fighting at Pea Ridge, Searcy Landing, Chickasaw Bluff, Arkansas Post, Jackson, Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Ringgold Gap, Resaca, Dallas, Atlanta, Ezra's Church, Jonesborough, Lovejoy Station and Savannah.
After the Civil War, the men of the 17th Missouri returned to their homes in St. Louis, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and other German settlments throughout the United States. Many were active in the Grand Army of the Republic. In St. Louis, 17th Missouri veterans founded GAR Post 13 in honor of their commanding officer, Col. Franz Hassendeubel who died in combat at Vicksburg.
Almost one thousand men served in the 17th Missouri during the period 1861-1864.

HARVEY S. PRITCHETT:
Harvey Sylvester Pritchett of Elvins was born March 22, 1894 at Doe Run and died December 27, 1973 at Elvins being 79 years of age. He was the son of the late Eli Pritchett and Belle (Martin) Pritchett.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah (Lanham) Pritchett; three children, Alline Pritchett of the home, Bob Pritchett of Peoria, Ill., and James Pritchett of Elvins. Two grandchildren, two brothers, Thomas Lanham of Rt. 2 Farmington and Eugene of Climax, Mo., and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Pritchett was a retired St. Joe employee. He had worked there 49 years before retirement.
Services were at the Caldwell Memorial Chapel, Sunday, December 31, 1973 with Rev. Robert Lupkey officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Caldwell's Services of Bismarck.

SGT. ALVA CRUMP:
Word was received Monday, Dec. 4, of the death of Staff Sergeant Alva L. Crump, who was killed in action in France, Nov. 17, 1944.
Sgt. Crump was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. E. Crump of Leadwood. He was employed at the St. Joseph Lead Company for a while and at the time of his induction was employed in St. Louis.
He was inducted at Jefferson Barracks, June 23, 1942 and took his training at Camp Pickett, Virginia, Camp Blanding, Fla., and Camp Phillips, Kansas. He was sent overseas in March, 1944 and took part in the invasion of France. He was 27 years of age.
Survivors other than his parents are his wife, who resides in St. Louis; three brothers, who are serving in the U.S. Army in France: Sgt. Earl Crump, Pfc. Arthur Crump, and H/5 Delbert Crump; three sisters, Velma Slade, Opal Stufflebean, and Hilda Watson who reside at home; three other brothers, Myrl at home, Cecil of St. Louis and Ohmer of Leadwood; other relatives and friends.
