Lead Belt News, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri, Friday, May 18, 1945.
Claude Jamison Wilkerson, son of the late Frank and Priscilla Jane Dunlap Wilkerson, was born near Sligo, Crawford County, Missouri, on February 6, 1880, and passed away at the Bonne Terre Hospital, Thursday, May 10, 1945, aged 65 years 3 months 4 days.
In 1899 he was united in marriage to Miss Mona Babel of Desloge and they were the parents of four children: Lawrence, Esther, Owen and Thelma. Three children, with the wife and mother preceded him in death many years.
On April 16, 1921, he was married to Miss Minnie B. Criteser of Elvins, who survives. He also leaves his son, Owen Wilkerson of Overland, Mo.; three grandchildren; four brothers: John Wilkerson of Little Rock, Ark., Louie Wilkerson of Pine Bluff, Ark.; Ellsworth Wilkerson of Bismarck, Mo., and Ernest Wilkerson of Rodeo,Calif.; several nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him dearly.
Mr. Wilkerson spent the greater part of his life in St. Francois County, where he followed the carpenter trade He was employed for several years by the National Lead Company, at St. Francois. The past seven years he and Mrs. Wilkerson have operated the Wilkerson confectionery at Leadington, and he was also serving his second term as Justice of Peace. He frequently officiated at weddings at his home.
He was well and favorably known throughout the county and will be sadly missed in the community. He was converted in 1934 and became a member of the Elvins Methodist Church where he remained faithful until death. He served as treasurer of the church and also as a member of the Board of Stewards.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, May 13, at two o'clock at the Elvins Methodist church conducted by Rev. K. H. Ladman, pastor of the Flat River-Esther Nazarene Church, assisted by Rev. Theo. Probst, pastor. The choir sang three selections: "God Will Take Care of You", "When they Ring the Golden Bells," and "Does Jesus Care?", accompanied by Miss Louretta Smith. Nieces served as flower girls and nephews as pall bearers. He was buried in Parkview Cemetery in charge of Boyer Service.

Army Pvt. Jackie L. Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Mill, Route One Farmington, recently was assigned to the 7th Infantry Division in Korea.Hill, a member of Heavy Mortar Company of the division's 17th Regiment, entered the Army in October 1956 and received basic training at Fort Leonard Wood. He arrived in the Far East last month. The single ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. W. Allen, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church, in the presence of the immediate families.
The 23-year-old soldier attended Farmington High School.

Mrs. Margaret Jane Asberry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Keathley, was born in Pikesville, Kentucky, near the Cumberland Mountains, on Oct. 18, 1847, and departed from us June 27, 1936, at the age of 88 years. She came to Missouri with her parents while still a small girl. Was united in marriage to William Henry Asberry, in July 1874. She leaves to mourn her departure six children. Her husband departed from this life July 4, 1932.

Presents his demand for an account dated December 28, 1881, February 15, 1882, May 2, 1882 and August 27, 1882 for $15 for services rendered as Administrator of the Estate of Wm C. Pennington deceased.

The following is from Maryann McDowell d/o Daniel Douglas and Eunice Randolph Pennington: "My Dad told that William started driving a team for an old doctor and helping him with his house calls, doing chores etc. when he was young, got interested in medicine and learned all he could from the old doctor who encouraged him. Later he went to school at Rolla, MO. and maybe Philadelphia, PA. He was the only doctor at one time between Poplar Bluff and Rolla. He rode a circuit and spent a day or two in each place and moved on to the next community."
Frances Camden, William's great-granddaughter said, "During some sort of epidemic that swept through the country, Dr. Pennington went from one household to the other for 4 days without rest. First his horse died, then William."
From the public records, it's surmised that William Pennington died sometime in 1877. This is about the same time of the Missouri Smallpox epidemic.

Mrs. Martha E. Fox, 42 years of age, died at her home in East Flat River Wednesday, February 9, of complications following birth of an infant son, the little one being dead at birth. Funeral services will be held at the home this (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Horne, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. The babe will be buried in the arms of his mother.
Deceased was born in Reynolds County, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Asbury, who still live there. She was united in marriage to Joseph Fox, and to this union six children were born, the eldest 21, and the youngest to be buried with her. Her husband and five children, Ethel, Oscar, Irene, Ruth and Ruby, all at home, her parents and four brothers and three sisters, are left to mourn her death.

He was united in marriage to Susan Camden, who preceded him in death. They were parents of 13 children, four of whom are also deceased. Surviving are two sons and seven daughters: Norman Keathley of St. Louis; Walter Keathley of San Pueblo, Calif.; Mrs. Flora Hardcastle of Peoria, Ill.; Mrs. Lucy Sullivan of Toppenish, Wash.; Mrs. June Brazeal, Mrs. Lola Clinton, Blanche (Mrs. Eugene) Martineau and Chloe (Mrs. Joseph) Wooldridge of Farmington and Oma (Mrs. Earl) Bauman of Kirkwood. He also leaves 37 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ in Bismarck, with interment in the Masonic Cemetery, Bismarck. Cozean Funeral Service.

Mrs. Susan Keathley of Farmington, died in Mineral Area Osteopathic Hospital, Sunday, March 18, 1962, at the advanced age of 82 years 8 months 3 days. She was born in Reynolds County, Mo., July 15, 1898[sic], a daughter of the late William and Jeremiah (Parker) Camden.
On November 29, 1894 she was united in marriage to James David Keathley, who survives. They were the parents of eleven children, nine of whom are living: Flora (Mrs. James Hardcastle), Peoria, Ill.; Lucy (Mrs. Elva Sullivan) of Topperish, Wash.; June (Mrs. Clifford Brazeal) Kirkwood; Lola (Mrs. Wm. Clinton), St. Louis; Oma (Mrs. Earl Baumann), Kirkwood; Norman and Walter Keathley, St. Louis; Blanche (Mrs. Eugene Martineau), San Pablo, Calif.; and Chloe (Mrs. Joseph Wooldridge), Farmington. She also leaves 37 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 21, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Bismarck, conducted by the Rev. Williams. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, Bismarck. Cozean Funeral Service.

Clarence Asberry was born on February 26, 1901, a son of John S. Asberry and Mary (Hood) Asberry, and died suddenly at his home in Bismarck, Thursday, July 20, 1961, aged 60 years 4 months 24 days. Death was apparently due to a heart attack.
Mr. Asberry was employed by the Ozark Flooring Company in Bismarck. He is survived by his wife, Maude; a son, James Asberry of St. Louis; two daughters, Mrs. Pauline Kemp of Bismarck and Mrs. Gladys Smith of St. Louis; his mother, Mrs. John Asberry of Ellington, Mo.; also three brothers, Clayton Asberry of Ellington, Cloyde Asberry of St. Louis, and Charles Asberry of Bismarck; two sisters, Mrs. Ella Baker of St. Louis and Mrs. Florence Hill of Ellington, and four grandchildren. His father preceded him in death. Other relatives and numerous friends mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 23, at the Assembly of God Church in Bismarck, conducted by the Rev. H. E. Jenkins. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery, Bismarck. Shipman & Sons Funeral Service.

Essie Louise Asberry, 82, of Bismarck died Aug. 10, 1995 at National Health Care in Desloge. She was born May 14, 1913 in Corridon to the late John E. and Anna Mae Weems. She was preceded in death by one sister, Aileen Larkin; three brothers, Hubert, Clyde and Bernell Weems; one grandson, Randy Asberry.
Essie retired from the Southeast Missouri mental Health Center where she was employed for several years in the nursing department. She was an avid gardener and a longtime member of the Bismarck Town and Country Garden Club. She was a member of the Flat River Church of Christ in Park Hills.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Ed and Sondra Asberry of Excelsior Springs; one daughter and her husband, Charlene (Mrs. David) Hagerty of Park Hills; two sisters, Lucille Young of St. Louis and Berniece Honn of Champaign, Ill.; two brothers, Mel Weems of Bonne Terre and Fred Weems of Arnold; three granddaughters; one grandson; two great-granddaughters; a host of brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the C. Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the C. Z. Boyer and Son Chapel with Chaplain Robert V. Brand officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francois Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Flat River Church of Christ Building Fund.

Funeral services for Walter Asberry, 79, were held Friday, July 18, at Pewitt Chapel, Rev. Noel Meade officiating with burial at Santhuff Cemetery.
Mr. Asberry died July 16 at Arcadia Valley Hospital. He was born May 14, 1907, the son of the late Marion and Nettie Asberry.
He was united in marriage to Doris Smith on Nov. 28, 1951. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Lee, Annapolis; seven brothers: William, Van Buren; Lawrence, New Mexico; Grover, Globe, Ariz.; Herbert, and Virgil, Ellington; Ralph, Dixon; Paul, Texas; one sister, Iva Ross, Van Buren; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

GROVER ASBERRY
Grover Asberry, age 77, departed this life Dec. 28, 1987 in Humana Hospital in Phoenix. He was born Dec. 4, 1910 in Oregon County, Mo. and had lived in Arizona since 1954. He was the son of Marion Asberry and Anetta Sabin Asberry.
Grover and his wife, Purlina, made their home in Central Heights. He was retired from the Christmas Mine at Inspiration Copper Co. where he worked as a blacksmith. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during World War two. He was a member of the Globe Elks Lodge and was a former Commander of the American Legion Post in Ellington. Grover had many, many friends in the local area and his smiling face will be missed.
Left behind in loving memory is his wife, Purlina; daughters, Onita G. Barton of Granite City, Ill., Erma L. McNail of Pevely, Patricia E. Halvorson of San Antonio, Texas, JoAnn Calley of Phoenix and Carolyn S. Pierce of Phoenix; sons, Donald H. Asberry of Farmington, Gary of California, Grover W. Asberry of Central Heights; sister, Iva Ross; brothers, Virgil, Herbert, Lawrence and Ralph Asberry; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Grover Asberry, a devoted and loving husband and father, a good friend, will be greatly missed by his family and by all who knew him.

Mr. Asberry, a retired pumpman for Cities Service Cooper Co., was born in Ellington June 12, 1912, to Marion and Nettie Asberry. He moved to Arizona 40 years ago.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and was an Army veteran of World War 2.
Mr. Asberry is survived by his wife, Patsy; three daughters, Linda Barrett, Judy Jaurigui and Diedra Asberry; three sons, Jerry, Terry and David; one sister, Iva Ross of Van Buren; eight brothers, Virgil, Herbert and Walter, all of Ellington, Lawrence of Carlsbad, N.M., Ralph of Dixon, William of Van Buren, Grover of Claypool, Ariz., and Paul; and eight grandchildren.
Additional Note: John Asberry is believed to have had four wives.

PAUL D. ASBERRY
Paul Asberry, son of the late Neddie Sabin and Marion Asberry, was born on Dry Valley near Ellington on Jan. 12, 1926 and departed this life at the Riverways Manor Nursing Home in Van Buren, on Nov. 2, 1987 having attained the age of 61 years.
Paul accepted Christ as his Savior about two weeks ago at the V.A. Hospital in Poplar Bluff.
Paul is survived by five brothers: Lawrence Asberry of New Mexico, Grover Asberry of Globe, Ariz., Ralph Asberry of Dixon, Herbert and Virgil Asberry of Ellington; one sister: Iva Ross, of Van Buren. Paul will be sadly missed by a host of relatives and many friends who will mourn his passing.
Funeral was held at the graveside in Santhuff Cemetery Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1987 at 10 a.m. Pastor Noel Meade officiated. Pewitt-McSpadden Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alpha Lucille Johnson Fleetwood was born in Centerville, Mo. Sept. 26, 1921 and went home to be with the Lord Jan. 21, 2000 at the Clark's Mountain Nursing Center, Piedmont, Mo. at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 26 days. She was the youngest child of William L. and Evelyn Asberry Johnson.
She was united in marriage to Charles Edward Fleetwood Nov. 19, 1941 and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1972. To this union five children were born. Lucille was preceded death by her parents, her husband, one half-sister Lula Jenkins, two brothers Elmer Arthur and Ray L.Johnson, one daughter Mary Lou and one son Lawrence Ray Fleetwood.
She graduated from Centerville, Mo. High School, class of 1941. She worked for Brown Shoe Co. in Ironton and later became an area coordinator for the green thumb organization. Lucille was a member and officer of the VFW Women's Auxillary Post 4381. She cooked for the senior citizen's of the Annapolis area for many years. She also was an excellent seamstress. She served as Mayor of Annapolis. She was converted at the Glover Baptist Church. Until she became disabled with Parkinson's disease, she was active in the Happy Zion General Baptist Church, the Golden Rule Sunday School Class and The Women's Missionary Society. She had been a resident of Clark's Mountain Nursing Home since July, 1997 where the staff became her extended family as they loved and cared for her. Lucille will be sadly missed by her children and their spouses: Edward Fleetwood and wife Nancy of Odessa, Mo.; Betty and her husband Jim Funk of Annapolis; Kenneth and his wife Tammy of Kansas City, Mo.; even granchildren, Douglas Fleetwood of Odessa, Mo.; Mike Fleetwood and wife Misty of Emma, Mo.; Patti Morr and husband Jim of Melbourne, Fla.; Pam Harris and husband Kim of Ridgeland, Miss.; Amy Fleetwood of St. Louis, Mo.; Justin Fleetwood of Maryland Heights, Mo.; Nicole Fleetwood of Kansas City, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren Eddie, C.J. and Blaine Fleetwood of Emma, Mo.; Elyssa, Ben and Will Morr of Melbourne, Fla.; Tyler and Ryan Dement of Ridgeland, Miss.; one sister-in-law of Port Orange, Fla.; one niece and one nephew and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000 at the Happy Zion General Baptist Church in Annapolis, Mo., with Rev. Mike Harrison officiating. Burial was in the Mountain View Cemetery in Des Arc, Mo. under the direction of Bryson Funeral Home.
