Obituary of Austin Peter Goodin and Pearl Rebecca (Highley) Goodin:
April 24, 1942 - The Lead Belt News, Flat River, St. Francois County, Missouri
Pioneer Couple Died Day Apart
Joint funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Goodin of Desloge, who died Saturday and Sunday within 24 hours, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Desloge Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. A. C. Johnson of Farmington, assisted by Rev. C. W. Griffin, the pastor. Burial was in the Bonne Terre Cemetery. Boyer service.
Austin Peter Goodin was born November 3, 1872, a son of Austin and Lucy Fletcher Goodin of Primrose, Mo., and died April 19, 1942, aged 69 years 4 months 16 days.
Pearl Rebecca Highley, daughter of Robert and Ann Westover Highley, was born September 29, 1876, and died April 18, 1942, aged 65 years 6 months 19 days.
They were united in marriage on July 26, 1897, and to this union were born nine children, all of whom survive: Lois, Paul, Donald, Dorothy, Aline, Mary Frances, Ruth, Ben and Jim. They also leave twelve grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews. Mr. Goodin is survived by two sisters, Mrs. E. H. Suhre of Muskogee, Okla., and Mrs. J. J. Doss of Wilmington, Calif. Mrs. Goodin's only sister is Mrs. Alice Evans of Washington, D. C.
Mr. and Mrs. Goodin were both members of pioneer families of this section of Missouri. Mrs. Goodin's ancestors fought in the Revolutionary war and her father in the Civil War. The Highley and Westover families were early settlers here, coming with Moses Austin.
Mr. Goodin was engaged in business with the Goff Mercantile firm for forty years, retiring in 1932. He conducted a store in Leadwood for twenty years, from 1906 to 1926, and the business houses of Leadwood closed for two hours during the funeral service.
Mrs. Goodin served St. Francois County as Democratic Committeewoman for two terms and Mr. Goodin was also active in Democratic activities of the county.
The sympathy of the community goes out to the doubly bereft children in the loss of both parents. The passing of this fine couple is mourned by their loved ones and friends.

Cousin Cathy Champlin Williamson cleaned out a closet today and found a paper she had jotted down some notes on. Dated Nov. 3, 1975, it was info given to her by Aunt Grace Fatchett Wolters d/o Charles Philip and Amanda Wallace Fatchett.
(Grace is naming siblings of her father)
*Charles Philip was age 15 when his father died. He was the whole support of their family.
*Uncle Fred
*Aunt Leona married to Harry Evens (I found this marriage in 1902 but had no parents for Leona Fatchett) Aunt Grace never knew Leona but knew her husband worked in a bank in Bismark
*Aunt Charlotte who was called Lottie. She married a man named Orange and they had two girls, Ruth and Bernice Orange. They were orphans and raised by an aunt on their fathers side. The aunt was Bell Fortner.
