Carolyn Hawkins said, John was murdered somewhere in (Springfield or St. Joe) Missouri about 1920-21. Being murdered when he apparently stepped between two men arguing and was shot." This is probably incorrect, for Pat Cravens Hornaday said, "John was shot by William Daly. It happened at my grandmother's (Ada Viola Scaggs Daly) house. John was shot by his sister's brother-in-law. I have a copy of Will Daly's trial. The family all testified that they didn't see anything thought they were there. An item about the shooting was in the St. Joseph Gazette, June 13, 1922, so John was shot the 12th. Will Dally was convicted; he appealed and won because he had sent the Daly family out of town, and there were no witnesses. Will Dally got away with murder."
No other details.

Personen : Westover Sorilda "Rill" Jane
MRS. SORILDA JANE NORWINE, May 16, 1919
The death on Tuesday, May 13, of Mrs. C.A. Norwine, brought genuine grief and sorrow to a very large proportion of the people of Bonne Terre in St. Francois County.
The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Thursday from Centenary Methodist Church where the big new church was taxed to its capacity to accommodate those who came to pay silent tribute to this grand old mother in Israel, many of the people going to be cemetery where her mortal remains were laid at rest under the impressive services of the Order of the Eastern Star of which she was an attentive and consistent member.
The services held at Centenary Church were very impressive and every one appreciated every word of the tribute paid Mrs. Norwine by her old friend and former pastor, Rev. N. B. Henry, who spoke in part as follows:
"Sorilda Jane, a daughter of Calvin and Frances Mitchell Westover, was born May 26, 1847, on the old Westover farm on Big River, Washington County, MO. Here she grew to womanhood, under both family and natural environments favorable to the development of those noble qualities of mind and heart for which, in her maturer years, she was so conspicuous.
On March 7, 1879, she was united with Charles A., a son of Conrad and Elander Christopher Norwine, of Germany settlement, but at the time of the marriage holding a clerkship in a mercantile establishment in Victoria, Missouri.
This place the young couple made their home for ten years, going from there to Fourche-a-Renault for a time, from which place they came to Bonne Terre in 1883.
Here Mr. Norwine engaged in the mercantile business, soon becoming one of the leading merchants of this place.
Five children came to bless the home, two of whom died in infancy; one, Lenora, ascended on high in young womanhood; Amos C. is still a citizen of Bonne Terre, and Mamie C., wife of Walter L. May, lives in St. Louis.
Sister Norwine was translated at 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 1919 after long and painful suffering.
In that hour of launching forth from the shores of her earthly pilgrimage, she was cheered by the presence of her husband and children, with other loved ones.
She was converted in 1860 at Irondale, MO under the ministry of Rev. D. M. Proctor, but held her membership at Randolph Chappel, changing to this place when the class was organized here.
As a woman she was self-poised and sweet spirited.
As a neighbor, she bestowed her favors with a cheerfulness which seemed to say, "Thank you for giving me this golden opportunity of being so blessed."
As a friend, she was strong, steadfast and true to all.
As a wife and mother, she recognized her home duties as claiming her first services, was wise in the administering of home affairs, and was irresistible in her enforcement of the home government, although the means of enforcing it were not the rod, but her winning smile, her sweet toned voice, her self-control, and the grace of God which did so abound in her.
As a Christian, she is beautifully described in the 13th chapter of I Corinthians. You have all read the chapter often. Read it again with the thought of our sainted Sister in your mind, and see how remarkably most of those qualities therein enumerated apply to her.
In her last sickness, while her suffering was so intense, she was heard to pray" "Father, if it be thy will, let me go home."
She was faithful to her church, standing by it at all times, apologizing for the mistakes of her pastors, sorrowing over reverses and rejoicing in her advancement.
She can not come back to you, but you can go to her."
The STAR cannot find words to add to this splendid tribute by Rev. Henry. The hearts of all who knew Mrs. Norwine are filled with sorrow for her loss and sympathy for the husband and children. Vain would be any attempt of ours to measure the loss of a mother to her children, a wife to a husband; after all the poets have sung and lovers dreamed, outside of heaven there is no love like this love. We believe the tender care devoted to those nearest and dearest, went with her to the better land, and in the possibilities of eternity, may be needed hereafter. We fancy her awaiting them in the place prepared for her, a little apart from the innumerable company in bright array; perhaps in one of the...."palaces of ivory, Its windows crystal clear." of which old Bonar quaintly sung. In the light, not of the sun, neither of the moon, we see her beyond the fields of fadeless asphodel, under the waving palms, beside the still waters bordered by silver lilies. These may be merely figures, but they bear a precious meaning to yearning hearts made for the deep household loves; hearts hat will not be comforted because the Angel of the House is missing. "She cannot come to them but they can go to her."
CARD OF THANKS
We take this opportunity of thanking the many friends who have been so generous in their sympathy and help during the sickness and death of Mrs. Sorilda Jane Norwine.----C.A. Norwine and family.
