Personen : Westover Thomas Curtis
Bonne Terre Register, Bonne Terre, St. Francois County, Missouri - Friday, March 23, 1906.
IN MEMORIAM:
Mr. Thomas Curtis Westover was born June 15, 1846, and died March 15, 1906, aged 60 years and 9 months. His entire life was spent on a farm known as the "Westover place", six miles west of Bonne Terre, Mo., and his body was laid to rest in the family cemetery. He was married to Marie C. Rank of Warsaw, Mo., Dec. 23, 1866. To their union were born seven children, the only son having preceded his father to the land of rest 17 years ago. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, six daughters: Mrs. George R. Jordan, Mrs. B. T. Maddern, Mrs. R. A. Loyd, Mrs. L. G. Fatchet, and Misses Lucy and Ethel, three brothers, five sisters and a host of friends. Mr. Westover was esteemed and loved by all who knew him, for it is truly said of him, he was a true husband, a kind father, an estimable neighbor and a good citizen. He belonged to a well known family, his father being one of the first settlers of this county. The hands of a father that never tired in honest toil for the welfare of his family are folded in death. Let us who survive him so reverently trust our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that we may find the consolation expressed in M. Raymond's little poem" "Christian Consolation."
"Beside the dead I knelt for prayer
And felt a Presence as I prayed.
Lo! it was Jesus standing there.
He smiled: 'Be not afraid!'
'Lord, thou has conquered death we know;
Restore again to life,' I said,
'This one who died an hour ago,'
He smiled: 'She is not dead.'
'Asleep then as thyself didst say;
Yet thou canst lift the lids that keep
Her prisoned eyes from ours away!
He smiled: 'She doeth not sleep!'
'Nay, then, tho' happy she do wake,
And look upon some fairer dawn,
Restore her to our hearts that ache!'
He smiled: 'She is not gone!'
'Alas! too well we know our loss,
Nor hope again our joy to touch,
Until the stream of death we cross,'
He smiled: 'There is no such!'
'Yet our beloved seem so far,
The while we yearn to feel them near,
Albeit with thee we trust they are.'
He smiled: 'And I am here.'
'Dear Lord, how shall we know that they
Still walk unseen with us and thee,
Nor sleep, nor wander far away?'
He smiled: 'Abide in Me?' "

MORPHINE USER DENIED DRUG DIES FROM EFFECTS:
The body of Mrs. M. K. McFarland was taken through here on the train Monday evening to be buried at Coffman. The McFarland family lives at Herculaneum where Mr. McFarland works in the smelter. The death came as a result of the enforcement of the recent drug act, regulating the sale of opium and its compounds. Mrs. McFarland had been addicted to the use of morphine for a number of years and when the new law went into effect on March 15, which prohibits the sale of any form of opium except by prescription of a physician, she found it next to impossible to keep a supply on hand. In her effort to throw off the habit her physical condition would not bear the strain and on Wednesday she became unconscious, Death came Sunday. She was 36 years old and leaves a husband and four children. The McFarland family was well known in this county having lived at different places in the county, including Bonne Terre in 1904.

The rest of his land being on high rolling ground is a desirable place for any one to locate.
