Funeral mass was held at noon Wednesday, June 13, 1984, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church for Robert F. Vits, 78, of RR 4, Pana, who died June 10, in Pana Community Hospital.
The Rev. Fr. B. H. La Bonte officiated at the service. Music was by Ralph Jones, organist and Jack Erisman, soloist. Serving as casket bearers were Jack Epley, Jim Epley, Larry Epley, Lester Schmitz, Dean Hildebrand and Roger Hildebrand. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
D. J. Kennedy & Sons Memorial Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Whitlach died Thursday, October 8, 1998, in Winter Haven, Fla. She was 80 years old on January 19. She worked as a beautician before she retired and was a graduate of the Decatur School of Beauty Culture. She was born in Bantury, N.D., a daughter of Joseph and Edith Thompson Vits. The family moved to Pana when she was a small child. Her first husband, Emory Morgan, whom she married in 1944, died in 1974. She married Carl Whitlatch in 1980. He died in 1988. Surviving are a son, Eugene Morgan and wife Patricia of Winter Haven; step daughter, Judy Burk and Duane in Illinois; step son, Bell Whitlatch and wife Diane in Illinois; five grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. Among others surviving is her mother in law, Alma Morgan, who at age 97 lives in Schram City. Preceding her in death were a brother, Neil Vits in 1989 and a sister, Josephine in infancy.

ASSUMPTION - Donald Anthony Vits, 63, of rural Pana died 1 p.m. Thursday (April 14, 1994) in Memorial Hospital, Logansport, Ind.

Mr. Vits was born Jan. 23, 1931, in Peoria, the son of George and Louise Botts Vits. He was a farmer, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Pana Knights of Columbus. He married Joan Wood on Dec. 29, 1950, in Assumption.
Surviving are his wife; daughters, Beverly Ann and husband Lew Alwardt of Milford; Kathleen and husband John Readnour of Tower Hill; grandchildren, Micah Alwardt and Jerod Alwardt, both of Milford; Jeremy and wife Tara Milligan of Taylorville; Joni Milligan of Tower Hill; Zach Readnour of Tower Hill; Mark and Elizabeth Readnour, both of Litchfield.

Marguerite Ramseyer, 84, of Pana died Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 3:43 p.m. in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL. She was born September 26, 1922 in Pana, IL, daughter of Charles L. & Elizabeth Ricketts Joley. A graduate of Pana Township High School she earned a teaching certificate after two years of college. After her first husband passed away, she went back to college and received a degree in education from Eastern Illinois University in 1973.
She taught at Lincoln School, Pana, retiring in 1979. Marguerite was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Pana, and Presbyterian Women, Tuesday Club, Chapter HD P.E.O., Pana Educational Association, Friday Movie Bunch, all in Pana; and Past Worthy Matron of Tacusah Chapter #682 Order of Eastern Star, Assumption.
She married Herschel L. Collins on August 28, 1943 in Pana; he died May 25, 1966. She then married Earl S. Ramseyer on February 22, 1975 in Pana; he died December 23, 1994.
Marguerite is survived by her son: James Collins & partner Michael Miller, Chicago, IL; two daughters: Anne Nicolas & husband Richard, Pana, IL and Connie Alexander & husband Paul, Beaumont, TX; step daughter: Maxine Ramseyer, Morton Grove, IL; 4 grandchildren: Michael Nieto & wife Kelly; Matthew Nicolas & wife Joanna; Greg Nicolas & Bryan Nicolas; 1 great grandson Nathan Nicolas; 3 step grandchildren: Steve Ramseyer & wife Liz, Bruce Ramseyer & wife Lisa; Calvin Ramseyer; 8 step great grandchildren; and brother: Charles "Chod" Joley, Litchfield, SC.

Bernard Behara Celebrates 89th:
A birthday reception for Bernard Behara will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 2-4 pm in the St. Mary's Church Parish Hall at 421 South 7th in Ponca City. All friends and relatives are invited. The family requests no gifts.
Bernard G. Behara, 724 N. 14th of Ponca City, Oklahoma was born August 8, 1909 to John F and Theresa (Eck) Behara.
He attended Cooper School which was located East of Newkirk.
He was the second of 7 children. His siblings included: Edna Schuchman, Clara Huster, Catherine Arnett, Opal Bryson, Dorothy and Joe Sheik, and John and Florence Behara.
He and Claudine (Tipton) Behara were married July 28, 1937, she died July 22, 1979. He went to work at Conoco and was there for 30 plus years. He also worked at the First Baptist Church in Ponca City for over 30 years. He did carpentry and painting on the side, which he still enjoys today. Presently he is building stools for his great grandchildren.
The Beharas raised 7 children including: Keith Behara, Opal (Behara) Grimeley, Lois (Behara) Thomason, Mary (Behara) Fredricks, Connie (Behara) Liberton, Max Behara, and Claudia (Behara) Rock.
Behara's oldest living relative is his Aunt Ellen Eck of Arkansas City who is also 89 years of age this year.
He has 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to attend a birthday celebration for Bernard G. Behara from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church Parish Hall, 421 South Seventh.
Born Aug. 8, 1909, he will be 89. The son of John F. and Teresa (Eck) Behara, and the second of seven children, Behara grew up east of Newkirk and attended Cooper school.
Behara and the former Claudine Tipton were married on July 28, 1937, and they reared seven children. Their children and spouses are: Bernard Keith Behara and Sue, Mary (Behara) Fredricks and Marion, Connie (Behara) Liberton, all of Ponca City; Max Behara and Rosanna of Perry; Opal (Behara) Grimley and Jerry of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Lois (Behara) Thomason and Melvin of Weatherford, Texas, and Claudia (Behara) Rock and Bob of Fullerton, Calif. He has 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Behara retired from Conoco after more than 30 years. He was a painter and carpenter, and still enjoys woodworking.
Mr. Behara has a sister, Dorothy (Behara) Sheik and her husband Joe, as well as a sister-in-law, Florence Behara, wife to his late brother, John Behara, all residing in Newkirk. One aunt, Ellen Eck, resides in Arkansas City.
Other sisters and their spouses who are now deceased are Clara (Behara) Huster and Frank, Edna (Behara) Schuchman and Paul, Catherine (Behara) Arnett and Don, and Opal (Behara) Brunson.

Bernard George Behara
Bernard George Behara, Ponca City resident and formerly of Newkirk, died Friday afternoon, February 19, 1999 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Ponca City. He was 89.
The son of John Fredrick and Teresa Matilda (Eck) Behara, he was born August 8, 1909 east of Newkirk. He grew up in rural Newkirk and attended Cooper Rural School.
On July 28, 1937 he and Claudine Mary Tipton were married in Newkirk. They established their home on a farm east of Newkirk where they lived until September 1942 when they moved to Ponca City. He began working for Conoco and worked until his retirement in 1973 with 30 years of service as head operator. He had also been employed as carpenter and painter at the First Baptist Church in Ponca City for 30 years.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ponca City and the Knights of Columbus. For many years he helped with the bingo games at St. Mary's. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, and his flower and vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed his woodworking projects in the basement.
His survivors include two sons and their wives, Bernard Keith and Sue Behara of Ponca City and Max and Rosanna Behara of Perry; five daughters and their husbands, Mary and Marion Fredricks of Ponca City, Connie Liberton of Ponca City, Opal and Jerry Grimley of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Lois and Melvin Thomason of Weatherford, Texas, Claudia and Bob Rock of Fullerton, California; one sister and her husband, Dorothy and Joe Sheik of Newkirk; five sisters-in-law, Florence Behara of Newkirk and Dorys Peters, both of Newkirk, Catherine Kennedy of Rosebud, Arkansas, Bertha Smith of Silver City, New Mexico and Vineta & Leroy Peters of Ponca City; and an aunt, Ella Eck of Arkansas City.
He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and their spouses, Darin Behara of Weatherford, Tim and Wanda (Behara) Stein of Ponca City, Joe and Malinda (Behara) Farley of Ponca City, Toss and Julia (Grimley) Patterson of Edgewood, New Mexico, Jill Grimley of Beebe, Arkansas, Aaron and Debra (Thomason) Wand of Stephenville, Texas, Mike and Leslie Thomason of Arlington, Texas, Brian Fredricks of Ponca City. Also Ronnie and Kerry (Fredricks) Carter of Ponca City, Tina Liberton of Oklahoma City, Eric Liberton and Arron Liberton both of Ponca City, Travis and Kristal Behara of Okmulgee, Cory and Shannon Behara of Edmond, Jason Behara of Ponca City and Kyle Rock of Fullerton, California.
Great-grandchildren are Courtney, Jeremy and Hunter Stein of Ponca City, Tanner Farley of Ponca City, Maddison and Colbie Grimley of Beebe, Arkansas, Sarah and Tayler Patterson of Edgewood, New Mexico, Brandon, Mikayla and Jessica Wand of Stephenville, Texas, Dayton and Ian Thomason of Arlington, Texas, and Cody and Shannon Behara of Okmulgee.
He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Claudine on July 22, 1979; his parents; one brother, John Behara; four sisters, Clara Huster, Edna Schuchman, Catherine Arnett and Opal Brunson; and a brother in law, Keith Tipton.
The Rosary was at 7 p.m. Monday evening in the Miller-Stahl Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bosco Pudhuta. Mass of the Ressurection was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 23 in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. John Michalicka as celebrant and assisted by Deacon Dick Robinson. Burial followed in the Newkirk Cemetery under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service.
Grandchildren served as casket bearers.
