Personen : Schifferdecker Catherine Barbara
The 1860 Illinois Census shows Catherine and Jospeh Hemp living in T4N-R10W in Monroe Co, Illinois, and having eight children, ranging in age from six to twenty. The Monroe County Land Record ledger Book P, Page 201 lists Catherine and her husband, Jospeh Hempe, and her sister Mary and her husband Peter Sauer, as selling land which the two sisters had inherited from their deceased father, Joseph Schifferdecker, to Francis J. Schifferdecker their brother. The Deed covered 178 acres, the price was $300, and the date was 19 Feb 1853. Catherine died in Monroe County, Illinois in the 1870's. There is a tombstone in the Madonnaville Cemetery (near Waterloo. Illinois) which shows a Catherine Hempe, wife of Joseph, who was born 11 Oct 1816? and died 12 Apr 1891. I believe that it is the stone for her daughter-in-law, the wife of her son, Joseph and that the date of birth on the stone is really an eroded 1846. In the last half of 1860 Joseph Hemp (widower of Catherine Schifferdecker) went West to Oregon with two of his sons, Frank and Antone. The 1880 Census for the New Design Prescinct (Tipton), Monroe County Illinois lists her husband Joseph (no wife is listed), three children, and a niece. Name is shown as Shevedecker.
